Chicken House Fire on Andrewville RD

On Thursday afternoon Station 47 along with Tanker Company 50(Harrington), Tanker Company 78(Greenwood) Ambulance 50 and KM8 were dispatched to a chicken house fire on Andrewville Rd. Rescue 47 went on scene with a working alarm and Chief Tom Williams assumed Command. First arriving crews initiated an aggressive interior attack but due to a metal ceiling preventing crews from reaching the bulk of the fire and with conditions deteriorating rapidly Command ordered an evacuation and operations were switched to defensive mode. Command then requested a second alarm which brought Tanker Companies 52(Houston) and 72(Bridgeville) to the scene and a Stand-By from Station 42(Carlisle). Eleven minutes later Command requested a third alarm which added Tanker Companies 300(Denton MD) and 75(Ellendale) and the Stand-By Engine from 42 to the scene and replaced them with a Stand-By from Station 49(Frederica). Command Placed the scene under control at 15:11 and the last crews cleared at 16:10. Units Responding; Rescue 47, 47-3, 47-4, 47-10, 78-4, 78-2, Tanker 78, Tanker 50-2, 50-5, A and C 50, Tanker 52, Rescue 52, A-52, KM8, 72-1, 72-9, Tanker 72, Tankers 75-8 and 75-4, Tanker 48-5, Engine 42-5, Caroline County Engine 604. Engine 49 stood by at Station 47.
